Summer Program!

Congratulations on a fantastic performance last night.  I am so proud of all you’ve accomplished!

In part because of your concert last night, we have received approval to keep the program going through the summer!!  We’ve received approval for 5 classes to carry us from June – August. Because of space issues at Liberty, we won’t be able to do much until June. If I can get permission, we will have one in May, and the rest beginning in June.  During the summer, the class will be held at Liberty, just as they have been throughout this past year.  As the school is officially closed during those times, any siblings that you bring with you will need to stay in the violin room during the class.  Lots of little ones running through the school could shut us down for the rest of the summer.

If you would like more instruction for your child over the summer, I am filling up my slots for private lessons, and I am happy to work you in. My rates are very reasonable when compared to other teachers with my experience and education.

Thanks again for a great concert and a great year (so far.)

Concert & Last Day

Our concert is in approximately 2 1/2 hours!  I'm really looking forward to it.  Hopefully the kids aren't too nervous.  I do have Symphony bars for each of them after the performance, and I apologize ahead of time since I know many of you don't eat sugar.  However, those are traditionally a post-concert gift that I do.  Hopefully it won't cause too many problems at home.

Tomorrow in class we will be watching a DVD recording of the concert.  The kids are welcome to bring treats to share with their class.

I have not heard anything back from Liberty as far as continuing through the summer, and I've been bugging Becky regularly.  If I haven't gotten any answers by tomorrow, I'll have a sheet with my private rates, and maybe we can work with that.  If you have any questions or concerns about continuing through the summer, please call me, or pull me aside tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch!!

Concert!!

Hi!

The concert is in 6 days!  I am so excited for the kids to show how much they've learned this year in violin.  The concert is on Thursday, April 9, at 7:00 p.m. at Summerhays Music at 1006 South State Street in Orem.  I need all the performers to be at Summerhays by 6:40 p.m. so we have a chance to tune, and the kids get the run-down of what will be happening.  Gentlemen, please wear dress shirts and ties; Ladies, please wear dresses or skirts.  Parents, please do a double check before you leave to make sure everyone has their instruments.  I've done concerts before where we wind up missing a violin or a bow, so please make sure everyone has everything they need.  The kids will be playing group pieces, so we should be finished easily within an hour.

I promised that I'd post the performance order here so the kids can practice the songs in order this week.  The songs are as follows:
Minuet 2
Puppet Show
Turkey in the Straw
Allegro
May Song
French Folk Song
Go Tell Aunt Rhody
Lightly Row
Boil 'em Cabbage Down
Twinkles:   Pepperoni Pizza
Ice Cream shh Cone
Strawberry, Raspberry
Caterpillar
Twinkle Star

For those of you who asked, here are the notes for French Folk Song:  (E string is orange, A string is green)
3 3 3 2 2 2 1 2 3 E
3 3 3 2 2 2 1 1 1 A
A 1 2 A 1 2 A 1 2 3
1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 E
3 2 1 E 3 2 1 A 1 A

Here are the notes for Boil 'em Cabbage

E/A  E/A E/A   (Open E & A strings together to the rhythm Strawberry, Raspberry, Strawberry, Stop -- if both strings aren't working, just play on A)

2 3 2 1 2 3 (2 1) A (all on A string -- Strawberry, Raspberry rhythm.  Play only Strawberry on the (2 1) notes.  This whole line is played twice.)

3 E E 1 E (shh) 2 3 (Ending, played once, single notes.)

As for class on Friday after the concert, we will be having a party!  The kids are welcome to bring treats to share, or not, if they don't want to.  I know I have a lot of students with diet restrictions, which is why I'm leaving the party treats up to you.  We will be watching the movie of the concert, so the kids can see themselves.

Many of you have asked me about continuing into the summer.  I haven't received any official word from Liberty yet, but I will have something in writing for you on Friday that we can look into to keep the kids going throughout the summer.

Please contact me directly if you have any additional questions.  See you on Thursday!!
